Tony is the Chairman of the Eikos Group and consults in the areas of risk finance and international treasury and re-insurance
In 1999 Tony was responsible for incorporating the EIKOS Risk Applications Group of companies offering risk management consultancy and related services. He is a major partner in this Group.
After matriculating in 1968 he joined the Standard General Insurance Company. In 1977 he was transferred to Cape Town as General Manager of their marine division and in 1987 he was transferred to Johannesburg Head Office as General Manager.
In the late seventies Tony obtained Bachelors of Commerce and Honours degrees, majoring in the subjects of business finance and investment theory, whilst employed by Pandora Maritime Agencies, a firm of ship and commodity brokers.
Tony then joined the academic staff at the Department of Business Economics at the University of the Witwatersrand, lecturing in the subjects of finance, investments, marketing, including advanced quantitative applications in marketing. In 1984 he obtained a Masters of Commerce degree, having completed a dissertation entitled The Investment Policies and Practices of South African Long and Short Term Insurers. As an academic, Tony published in various journals, including the Investment Analysts journal.
In 1984 Tony began consulting for Corporate Risk Management, specialising in pure risk management consultancy and risk management activities. This was followed by a permanent appointment and in 1987 he was appointed Managing Director of CRM Risk Finance Consultants.
In 1990 Tony was awarded a Doctorate degree in Business Economics, following his thesis entitled Risk Management: An Integrated Approach. Also in that year he incorporated Inter-Global Financial Services (Pty) Ltd, a company specialising in treasury and currency risk consultancy, of which he was the Managing Director.
In 1993, following the restructuring of CRM Risk Finance Consultants, Tony was appointed Chairman of two newly formed consultancy companies: Integrated Risk Consultants (Pty) Ltd (IRC) and R & I Management Services (Pty) Ltd (RIMS). In the same year he was instrumental in the incorporation of a specialist corporate insurer: Guardrisk Insurance Company Ltd, in which he held the position of Deputy Chairman.
Tony is a senior member of the South African Association of Business Management, a member of the Association of Corporate treasurers of Southern Africa and is a Fellow of the Society of Risk Managers (SA). He is the principal author of a book entitled The Theory & Principles of Risk Management published in 1992.
As a leading consultant in the risk management concepts for pure and speculative risk, he is actively involved in seminars and lectures world-wide on risk management and risk financing.
In 1996 IRC expanded its consultancy activities by incorporating Integrated Risk Consultants (International) Ltd, situated in London. Tony was the Managing Director of this Company, consulting to international companies from this London base.
